Voorne-Putten, the island of contrasts

Located in South Holland, the island of Voorne-Putten offers an infinite range of possibilities: between town and country, between fresh and salt water. In a single day, you’ll be able to enjoy the peace and quiet of natural spaces as far as the eye can see, and the bustle of the city with its varied range of events and activities. On the island of Voorne-Putten, you’ll find the most beautiful beaches in the Netherlands, no less than two fortified towns (Hellevoetsluis and Brielle) and one of Europe’s most beautiful dune areas, Voornes Duin. The island offers a unique combination of nature, history and culture.

The historic town of Hellevoetsluis

Hellevoetsluis is a former military port on the Haringvliet. It was here that, in 1629, Admiral Piet Heyn landed the “Silver Fleet” (“Zilvervloot”), hijacked from the Spanish on behalf of the Republic of the Seven United Netherlands. The old fortifications from that era still stand proudly, as do the bunkers outside the recently renovated city walls. Several times a year, the whole of Hellevoetsluis is in jubilation. The main festivities are the Whitsun Sails, the World Predator Classic, the Dutch Classic Yacht Regatta, the “Voorne aan Zee” music festival and the “Vestingdagen”.

Historyland

Step back in time some ten million years, from the time of the dinosaurs to the last Ice Age. Go on an adventure and come face-to-face with mammoths, cave bears and life-size saber-toothed tigers. Historyland brings history to life.

FutureLand

Discover Europe’s most modern harbour. At FutureLand, you can see for yourself the futuristic development of Rotterdam’s newest port area. Take in the impressive surroundings on a guided tour or boat trip through Maasvlakte 2.

Schiedam

In Schiedam, you can feel and taste the charms of a historic town in the history of distilling. In the heart of the town, numerous buildings steeped in history and the world’s seven tallest windmills recall the days when Schiedam was the international capital of the gin industry.

Rockanje 9 km

The North Sea's must-visit seaside resort, with an exceptional beach to the southwest and the hippest beach bars on the coast. The dune zone between Rockanje and Oostvoorne is a unique natural area particularly popular with hikers and cyclists.
Brielle 10 km

This historic fortified town has a lot to offer. Historic buildings, stores, galleries, restaurants, hotels, terraces, campsites, museums, a historic port and direct access to the Brielse Meer. In the immediate vicinity, wilderness trails for cycling or walking. There's always something to do in Brielle.
Stellendam 12 km

Visit Stellendam and enjoy delicious fish in one of its many seafood restaurants. A visit to A Seal, the seal sanctuary, is also highly recommended.
Ouddorp 18 km

Rendezvous in Ouddorp, on the island of Goeree-Overflakkee. A cozy seaside village where you can recharge your batteries. Take a breath of fresh air on one of the most beautiful beaches in the Netherlands (almost 18 km long!).
Tiengemeten 28 km

This natural island is an oasis of tranquillity and a habitat for beavers and white-tailed eagles. Every day is different on this island. So close to the big city of Rotterdam, you'll find peace and tranquility.
Schiedam 36 km

Schiedam is the gin capital and gin town, with an old Dutch town center and the highest windmills in the world. Half an hour's drive from Hellevoetsluis, you'll find numerous gin distilleries, romantic canals, monumental warehouses and distinctive drawbridges.
