Brittany, home to major maritime festivities
The most important maritime events take place in the Finistère département – every three years in Brest, and every two years in Douarnenez. The Maritime Festivals of Brest and Douarnenez are, each time, an opportunity to welcome thousands of visitors passionate about the sea, who come to admire the ships or simply enjoy the lively atmosphere along the quays.
As the birthplace of the very first maritime festivals, Brittany has, over the years, established itself as the region where the finest celebrations are held. In our view, if you appreciate maritime heritage and boats in general, the festivals of Brest and Douarnenez are truly unmissable!
The Maritime Festivals of Brest
In 2026, unfortunately, you will not have the opportunity to attend the Brest Maritime Festival. The festivities, which were previously organised every four years, now take place every three years, and 2027 will be the next edition of the event.
While waiting for “Brest 2027”, which will take place across the entire port area and part of the military zone, you can attend the Maritime Festivals of Douarnenez in July 2026.

The Paimpol Maritime Festival
From August 14 to 16, 2026, the Paimpol Maritime Festival will celebrate its 20th anniversary! This is a must-visit event for enthusiasts of maritime heritage and music. For three days, the port will come alive with tall ships, nautical activities, and concerts on multiple stages, offering a festive immersion into the Breton maritime world. It’s the perfect opportunity to discover the richness of Brittany’s maritime heritage in a friendly and lively atmosphere.
This year, Port Adhoc Paimpol is proud to be a partner of the event, helping to promote regional maritime heritage while supporting local cultural life.

The Maritime Festivals of Douarnenez
From 23 to 26 July 2026, the 19th edition of the event will bring together hundreds of crews and traditional boats at the Port du Rosmeur in Douarnenez. It will also mark the 40th anniversary of the very first maritime event organised on Breton soil!
In Douarnenez, the festivities will take place on the water, on stage and along the quays. Visitors will be able to tour traditional boats, admire various nautical parades, go out to sea for pleasure trips, watch demonstrations… or even take part in introductory sessions.
The cultural programme will be particularly rich: enthusiasts of the sea and maritime heritage will enjoy a wide range of activities, conferences and debates, exhibitions and film screenings.
Finally, as is tradition, the Douarnenez Maritime Festivals will offer an eclectic musical programme, including world music and traditional sea shanties.

In Normandy: the Granville Working Sail Festival
If you would like to attend a maritime event on the English Channel, head instead to Granville, in Normandy. There, between 19 and 23 August 2026, you can enjoy five days of discoveries and activities centred around maritime heritage, as part of the well-known Working Sail Festival (Festival des Voiles de Travail).
The festival is an educational event, designed to help the general public understand what working sailing vessels were, and the economic and cultural importance of the region’s maritime past.
Created in 2012, it takes place every year in the port of Granville. Last year, it attracted nearly 50,000 visitors who came to enjoy activities at sea, entertainment in the harbour and events on shore.

Port Adhoc Paimpol, the ideal starting point for festivities
Located 126 nautical miles from Douarnenez and 58 nautical miles from Granville, Port Adhoc Paimpol is the closest port in our network to the maritime festivals in 2026. Whether you are planning to attend one festival, the Granville event, or all of them, Paimpol will be the ideal port from which to set sail.

We advise you to launch your boat early: at Port Adhoc Paimpol, you can do so between 3 hours before and 3 hours after high tide. Once in the water, you’ll be able to sail straight to the maritime festivities, with no need to lock through!
And if you don’t have a berth in Paimpol or Brittany, but are interested in visiting the festivities by motorboat or sailboat, we recommend that you find out about the area and sailing conditions in Brittany beforehand. Read on: we’ve also prepared an article on the subject!
