Destination Lelystad

The capital of Flevoland

Lelystad Haven opens the door to one of the Netherlands’ most beautiful nature reserves: Oostvaardersplassen. In addition to the beauty of its flora and fauna, it’s a favorite playground for sailing enthusiasts, thanks to the combination of the powerful waters of the Zuiderzee and the comfort of the inland lakes.

Between Lake Marker and Lake IJssel

The Markermeer is a beautiful navigable area north of Amsterdam of 700km2. It is home to the Marker Wadden nature reserve. It is separated from the IJsselmeer by the Houtribdijk, a 30km long dike built in 1976 and linking the cities of Lelystad and Enkhuizen. Both lakes are characterized by their powerful waters, a legacy of the former Gulf of Zuiderzee.

Lelystad

Lelystad, the capital of Flevoland, is the perfect combination of land and sea, with an important cultural fabric in the heart of the city and a wide range of water-based leisure activities, mainly centred around sailing. The city’s must-see is Batavialand, a heritage museum that traces the history of Flevoland. Here you can see a replica of the Batavia, a beautiful Dutch three-masted ship that was wrecked in 1629.
