In the Netherlands, on the shores of the IJsselmeer, we met Sjaak Feenstra – manager of the Yachtservice & Refit department, and Marieke Verhaar – Backoffice Manager at Flevo Marina.

The two members of our team were kind enough to answer all our questions.

Thank you Marieke and Sjaak for meeting us. Could you tell us a bit about your marina on the IJsselmeer?

Flevo Marina is a full-service marina located in the Dutch province of Flevoland, overlooking the IJsselmeer. Among marinas on the IJsselmeer, the marina is positioned as a true ‘hub’: water sports enthusiasts in Lelystad benefit from a strategic location both from the water and from the motorway. And offers a very wide range of services.

A strategically located marina on the IJssel lake

In the north of the Netherlands and on inland waterways, Flevo Marina users benefit from its central location in the heart of a fantastic cruising area:

On the IJsselmeer, the port is the perfect place to discover the historic port towns of Enkhuizen and Stavoren. But also nature reserves like De Kreupel and the Markerwadden!

In addition, water sports enthusiasts can explore many other sailing areas from Flevo Marina. Like the Markermeer, the IJmeer, the Gooimeer, the Ketelmeer, the Frisian lakes…, the choice is yours. Flevo Marina’s location is popular with Dutch water sports enthusiasts because of its central location in the country. And also loved by German water sports enthusiasts, who call it ‘the German gateway’.

Flevo Marina’s exceptional range of services

Compared to other marinas on the IJsselmeer, Flevo Marina also distinguishes itself by an extensive service package. For example, if you have a mooring contract at the marina, you can have all your work done on site without having to sail to another location.

Whether you want to have maintenance, repairs or a complete refit done, winterise your boat inside or outside, buy specific navigation equipment or new sailing clothes, or even buy or sell your boat, it is all possible at the marina.

Flevo Marina has a number of major dealers, including Raymarine, B&G, Simrad, Webasto, Volvo Penta, Selden and others.

By the way, what facilities and services are available at your IJsselmeer marina?

Flevo Marina offers everything you need for boat maintenance, repairs and winter storage. The marina in Lelystad has its own Yachtservice & Refit, offering a wide range of work: polyester/paintwork, sail repairs, various canvas work, electronics, engines, etc.

A broker is available for all water sports enthusiasts.

A total of 32 yacht professionals work at the marina to provide this exceptional range of services!

For staying in the marina, there are 4 floating toilet blocks – right on the stays, with toilets and showers. In addition, the land-based toilet block also has a sauna and two bathrooms, and a laundry. These facilities are – during the season – available 24/7.

At Flevo Marina, water sports enthusiasts will also find a restaurant, floating holiday chalets, a children’s playground and a beach in the immediate vicinity.

What is the capacity on site and what type of boats do you receive?

In terms of infrastructure, we have 600 large berths, where we can accommodate large boats and multihulls, something that other marinas in the region can’t offer. That’s not the case at the port of Lelystad, on the Markermeer, for example!

Flevo Marina further distinguishes itself from other marinas on the IJsselmeer by the depth of its harbour: we can accommodate ships with a draught of up to 3.50 metres.

For ships up to 40 tonnes, we offer covered or outdoor storage. Every year, more than 250 ships are stored outside, and there is space for more than 100 ships in various heated and insulated hangars.

Since mid-November 2024 Flevo Marina has been part of the Port Adhoc network of marinas on the IJsselmeer. What does this mean in practice?

By joining the Port Adhoc group, Flevo Marina is leaving the SkipsMaritiem group, to which it belonged since 2000. But boaters need not worry!

We value the convivial, family atmosphere at Flevo Marina: that is a very important feature, which we definitely want to keep!

Marieke Verhaar – the harbour master who has worked at the marina for 26 years, and Sjaak Feenstra – the harbour master and director of the Yachtservice & Refit shipyard for 20 years, will of course be staying on. They are the ‘faces of the marina’: they form a real family with the other members of the team, and we know that they are much appreciated by the boaters.

We are sure that our collaboration with the teams from the various European ports and Group investors will also breathe new life into our marina.

Finally, thanks to this acquisition, berth holders at Flevo Marina can benefit from the significant advantages offered by Port Adhoc.

What are the new benefits for Flevo Marina berth holders?

By joining the Port Adhoc Group’s network of ports, Flevo Marina also joins the loyalty programme for its yacht owners! As a result, boat owners with a seasonal or annual mooring contract benefit from 28 free nights per year, to be used in the other European ports of the network.

Furthermore, the port benefits for permanent berth holders will remain, such as the 50% discount on short term storage on land (from mid-May to September) and the 10% discount on retail items (except: fuel, gas, supermarket items, and promotional and discounted items).

Do you have any specific plans for the marina in the coming months and years?

Since the Port Adhoc group took over the marina, we have started rebranding the marina.

Secondly, although Flevo Marina is very well maintained, the sanitary facilities and wooden stays are ageing. This has received less attention in recent years. So our priority is to put together an investment programme to renew this infrastructure/facilities, as has been done at Lelystad Haven, not far from Flevo Marina. We will implement these projects to improve the quality of our reception for all our boaters.
