Two ports just a few kilometers apart

The first, Jachthaven Bruinisse, is located on the island of Schouwen-Duiveland in Zeeland. It is also known as the Bruinisse marina. The second, Marina Cape Helius, is located in the town of Hellevoetsluis, on the island of Voorne-Putten, in South Holland. Although each is located in a different Dutch province, the two marinas are very close: as the crow flies, the distance between Bruinisse and Hellevoetsluis is less than 20 kilometers!

By car, it takes just 40 minutes to get from Jachthaven Bruinisse to Marina Cape Helius. This is enough time to cover the 40-odd kilometers of road between the islands of Schouwen-Duiveland and Voorne-Putten, via the island of Goeree-Overflakkee…

But if you’re a boater, is it easy to get from Jachthaven Bruinisse to the Cape Helius Marina by boat? The answer is yes!

First, let us introduce you to the two marinas managed by the Port Adhoc group, and then we’ll explain in detail how to reach the port of Hellevoetsluis from Bruinisse.

This map is for illustrative purposes only. Do not use for navigation.

Jachthaven Bruinisse

At Port Adhoc, we like to say that this is the most beautiful marina on Lake Grevelingen. That’s certainly the opinion of many sailors who regularly call at our harbour…

Jachthaven Bruinisse offers 1,000 premium berths in a family-friendly marina – even though it’s one of the largest marinas in the Netherlands!

The port’s capacities can accommodate boats with a draught of less than 3.5 meters and lengths of up to 30 meters. On the handling side, port services can handle boats of up to 50 tons.

Whether you’re a year-round resident or just passing through, Jachthaven Bruinisse offers you a wide range of services:

  • The option of winterizing their boats indoors or outdoors
  • Water and electricity available on pontoons
  • Free Wifi
  • Modern laundry and sanitary facilities
  • A refuelling station
  • A swimming pool and playground to delight children
  • Bicycles provided free of charge by the port
  • A restaurant
  • A supermarket
  • A charging station for electric vehicles
  • Several shipyards, a sailboat, hardware stores, boat sales and rental professionals…

The situation of Jachthaven Bruinisse is an excellent location. It’s less than an hour’s drive from Rotterdam, and the ideal place to explore the surrounding area by boat: boaters have direct access to Lake Grevelingen, where they can enjoy exceptional flora and fauna.

On the Grevelingenmeer, they can visit many of Zeeland’s charming and unusual stopovers: discovering the islands and picturesque fishing villages, for example, is a must!

Marina Cape Helius

This other Port Adhoc Group marina is located on the Haringvliet river, in the historic walled town of Hellevoetsluis. For us, it’s the sunniest marina in the Netherlands!

Marina Cape Helius is another premium-quality harbour, this time in South Holland. Located 45 minutes by car from Rotterdam, it offers 300 berths afloat for sailboats and motorboats. All vessels up to 40 meters in length benefit from berths with catways!

Some covered berths are also ideal for wintering.

Water and electricity for boats directly on the pontoons, toilets and laundry, free Wi-Fi, playground, nearby beach, accommodation and restaurants within walking distance… as at Jachthaven Bruinisse, boat owners at Marina Cape Helius benefit from an impeccable quality of welcome. In fact, the marina has been awarded the international “Blue Flag” environmental and tourism label!

With direct access to the North Sea and the delta in the southwest of the Netherlands, Marina Cape Helius is ideal for all boaters wishing to sail in the surrounding Dutch waters.

There’s no doubt about it: all owners of units up to 40 meters in length and 4 meters in draught will enjoy a comfortable stay in our marina.

Sailing from Jachthaven Bruinisse to Marina Cape Helius

As a boater, you may be interested in the idea of sailing from one of these two ports to the other, to discover the sailing area that separates them, or simply to change environment.

No problem: sailing from the port of Bruinisse to Marina Cape Helius is relatively quick and easy. From Bruinisse, it’s just a 30-mile sail to Hellevoetsluis!

From Bruinisse to Hellevoetsluis, navigation in Dutch territory

From Jachthaven Bruinisse, the fortified town of Hellevoetsluis can be reached in less than a day’s sailing. The classic route skirts the island of Goeree-Overflakkee to the south-east, then heads north-west along the Hellevoetsluis to the town of Hellevoetsluis.

The itinerary and timetable you choose will, of course, have to be adapted to your boat’s characteristics. Draught and air draught, in particular, will define the way you sail, and the way you get through certain stages of the route.

As a guide, here are the main stages of navigation from the port of Bruinisse to Marina Cape Helius:

  • From the port of Bruinisse on Lake Grevelingen, head south-east. Join the Grevelingen locks, or Grevelingensluis, to cross the Rijksweg.
  • On Lake Krammer, reach the Krammer dam, also known as Krammersluizen.
  • After this stage, continue sailing on Lake Volkerak. Follow the south coast of the island of Goeree-Overflakkee to the Volkerak dam. This will enable you to cross the Volkerak Bridge, or Volkeraksluizen.
  • As you leave the dam to port, you’ll see the Haringvliet bridge. Its deck height is 11.98 metres. If your air draft doesn’t allow you to pass underneath, the bridge is raised several times a day.
  • Once over the bridge, you can navigate the Haringvliet. Keep the island of Tiengemeten to port, and head northwest upstream. You’ll then reach the town of Hellevoetsluis and Marina Cape Helius!

Although relatively short, this navigation between the harbour of Bruinisse and Hellevoetsluis will allow you to discover many Dutch territories. Discover the provinces of Zeeland, North Brabant and South Holland!

For us, it’s simple: sailing from Jachthaven Bruinisse to Marina Cape Helius is an exceptional cruise that we can’t recommend highly enough.
